Recap of Season 1 and Season 2 of Breaking Bad
The Season 3 Premiere of Breaking Bad is just around the corner. I, for one, cannot wait. Before the season starts, let’s give a recap of the past two seasons. Or you can watch Breaking Bad, Season 1, or Breaking Bad, Season 2:
Season 1:
Walter White (Bryan Cranston, famous for his role in Malcolm in the Middle) discovers that he has stage 3 lung cancer, despite never having smoked. It is due to chemicals, since he is a chemistry teacher and used to do research before becoming a teacher. The insurance won’t cover his chemotherapy and he has nothing to ensure a stable future for his wife – who happened to be pregnant – and sixteen year old son who has cerebral palsy. Also, Walter’s brother-in-law is a DEA agent, which leads him to the biggest mid-life-crisis in history.
Walter meets up with a former student, Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul), and they start cooking methamphetamine in order to make money. The season concluded with them finding a distributor for them, but then watch the distributor (Tuco) beat someone to death.
Season 2:
It starts where Season 1 ended, Tuco killing one of his lackies. Jesse and Walter fear for their lives, and get kidnapped by Tuco. Tuco takes them to a deserted area of New Mexico, where eventually Tuco ends up getting shot by Jesse and then later by Hank, the DEA agent. Jesse and Walter were able to leave before Hank arrived, but this meant that Walter had to create a good lie for his 3-day disappearance for his family. He says that he had a bad drug reaction and was found naked in a grocery store.
Walter’s wife, Skyler, knows something is wrong with Walter and that he is lying about something. Because of Hank, she realized that Walter had two cell phones but kept lying about it. So she decides to get a job and give Walter the cold shoulder. Walter discovers that his cancer is in remission.
Meanwhile, Jesse is kicked out of his house by his parents and moves into an apartment, next door to Jane. Walter and Jesse start selling their meth by enlisting three guys to become their dealers, which ends up going bad for everyone. One ends up shot, another got arrested, and the third already on probation leaves. Walter and Jesse go through several moral dilemmas before ending up trying to find a new distributor for their forty pounds of methamphetamines, which brings them to Gus, a socially high standing man who owns a chain of restaurants.
Jesse becomes addicted to heroin because of Jane and misses the phone call from Walter to deliver the meth. This makes Walter miss the birth of his daughter, Holly, and won’t hand over the $400,000 he owes Jesse for the deal. Jane discovers this and blackmails Walter. That night, Jane and Jesse got high on heroin and Walter came over to talk to Jesse. He tried to wake Jesse up, but Jane ended up rolling on her back and then vomiting, and choking on her own vomit. Walter just watched as she died.
Jesse goes into depression and Skyler left Walter at the end of Season 2. In the last few minutes, a plane crashes in the sky over Albuquerque. It was directed by Jane’s father, so Walter is ultimately responsible for it.
